I am a psychologist and board-approved supervisor, working from home on Peramangk Country in the beautiful Adelaide Hills.
I came to psychology a bit backwards. I did my first four years at university and joined the workforce because I grew up pretty poor and needed an income. So, I put my dreams on hold and went about building a career as a mental health professional. It took me another decade to become a psychologist but I got there in the end!
I’ve worked in all sorts of interesting settings, from youth mental health, to sub-acute mental health care, and occupational rehabilitation. I’ve been a clinician, clinical case manager, a team leader and provided advice on best practice to large organizations. I currently balance my small private practice with my work in a senior leadership team in a large NGO, along with volunteering and advocacy for early career psychologists.
I practice what I preach when it comes to self-care! I love to draw and paint, hang out with my dog, watch birds, chase the Aurora Australis and take photos of all of it. I read a lot of sci-fi and fantasy and do a bit of gaming too. I also hang out on psychology social media because connecting with my colleagues gives me joy.
Now I bring my years of experience and love of psychology to you.
I provide 4+2 and 5+1 primary and secondary supervision as well as supervision to psychologists with general registration.
I occasionally provide group supervision and professional development.
I am also able to provide supervision to other mental health professionals, such as counsellors and social workers.
I enjoy providing supervision to people in lived experience roles.
Provisional psychologists require 1 hour of supervision for every 17 hours they practice. This means that in a full-time role, if someone is logging all of their practice, they are likely to need around 2 hours of supervision every week.
I meet with supervisees (online) at a time that suits us both and we work together to meet all requirements of internships.
I am very familiar with the relevant guidelines and will support you to stay on track and on time with case reports and other requirements.
I know that the cost of supervision can be a barrier to entry into the profession – it is part of why I took many years to undergo registration myself! For those experiencing financial hardship, I charge a sliding fee scale, just as my supervisors did for me when I completed my internship. This means I will provide a range of prices, and you let me know what rate you wish to pay. Together, we can strike a reasonable balance between my need to earn an income, and your finances.
I would broadly describe my approach to therapy as ‘integrative’ rather than being aligned to one particular approach. I like to think about evidence-based approaches to our work, and especially the common factors research.
I am skilled in various forms of CBT and third-wave approaches such as DBT. I also have an interest in mindfulness practice and approaches that draw on the growing area of interpersonal neurobiology.
I also have extensive experience in family and systemic work.
LIVED EXPERIENCE
I welcome working with supervisees with lived experience and marginalized identities.
I have lived experience of neurodivergence, mental distress, disability, cancer and other chronic illness, poverty and of being a carer. Sometimes I speak about my lived experience publicly, to educate, support and advocate.
